Hills Valley Transportation, formerly known as H & S Trucking, is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in beautiful Orange Cove, CA. Our company was founded in 1969 by the Hernandez family when Luis Hernandez bought his first truck. Today our fleet has grown from that one truck, to twenty-five trucks and twice as many trailers. 50+ years in the transportation industry has taught us a lot about trucking, as we have adapted with it over the years. Though 50+ years has passed us by, the Hernandez family still approaches everyday as if it were our first, with determination, dedication, and a passion for the industry. H & S Trucking was founded in 1969 when a 1947 International KB-8 was bought for $2,500. It was driven by Luis Hernandez, the company’s founder, and in 1972 a second truck was bought for his 17-year-old son Ernie Hernandez to start trucking with his father. Ernie is still our primary dispatcher today.

In the 1970s H & S Trucking moved from Clovis, Ca to Orange Cove, Ca. The company has remained at 5035 South Hills Valley Road ever since.

As the company grew Luis created an office space for his daughter Patty to do all of the bookwork. She still works in that office today with a small staff of dedicated employees.

In its early years, H & S Trucking pulled 10-16 bins per day, pulling grapes from Madera to Fresno and citrus from Clovis to Cuttler. Currently, H & S Trucking hauls a variety of agricultural commodities throughout California, with 25 trucks pulling multiple loads per day.

Luis Hernandez was born on June 29th 1925 in Guanajuato Mexico. At 17 years old, Luis Hernandez came to America under the Bracero Program in hopes of making a life for himself. In America by himself, Luis went to work for a man named Charles Preuss in Clovis. In 1955 he met his would-be wife Guadalupe Gloria Ortiz, and started a family. Together they laid the foundation for what is now H & S Trucking. Luis and Lupe have both passed now, but their family still strives to continue their legacy every day.
